VERSUS

There’s this amazing new show on SPIKE TV called “Deadliest Warrior”. It’s one of those shows that makes me raise my hands and say, “Thank goodness for cable tv!” –and all the useful, and sometimes useless information it has imparted on me.

It pits the greatest warriors of all time against each other.
THINK:
GLADIATOR vs. APACHE
SAMURAI vs.VIKING
NINJA vs. SPARTAN

I hear Pirates are coming next…

Isn’t that premise just amazing? What’s truly even more fantastic is that it’s totally geeked-out-to-the-max in it’s highly technological analysis of the 2 fighters. They have a series of tests that include long range weapons and short range weapons. They have simulated skulls and faux tissue masses that actually bleed like a human being's. They have a resident ER doctor who I’m sure realized his frat boy medical school dreams when he got this gig.
Then they have gizmos that compute all the data: impact, speed, capacity to annihilate; and then the computer makes the warriors fight in a thousand somewhat games.
The show culminates in a well-produced fight sequence that has you rooting for your warrior. In my case, always the Asian.

It mixes history, action and tech geekiness in one fun show.
I love the trash talkin’. I guess even back in any day, men indulged.

I started thinking about female match ups. Consider the ff:
RED SONJA vs. XENA
MEDUSA vs. THE WICKED WITCH

And my favorite supposition:
BIONIC WOMAN vs. SARAH CONNOR

Hmmm…
BIONIC ARMS THAT COULD BEND STEEL, BIONIC LEGS THAT COULD RUN ABOVE 60 miles/hr, BIONIC EARS THAT COULD HEAR A WHISPER A MILE AWAY
vs.
A MOTHER OUT TO PROTECT HER SON (WHO IS, BY THE WAY, DESTINED TO SAVE THE THE HUMAN RACE FROM CYBORGS IN THE FUTURE)

Sarah hands down. Human or cyborg, there is no one stronger, more determined, and with more reason to fight.
Thank God for that.

Advanced Happy Mother’s Day, mom.

I Left My Heart In NYC

Photobucket
Going back to my favorite city of New York, I always feel like I’ve come back to where my heart is truly living.
And although the popular song claims otherwise, I have to differ.

The city rejuvenates me.
Not just because of its many conveniences and variety, but mostly because of its energy.

I feel free there.
Free…with choices within my reach.
Free…to pursue anything I want to.
Free...well...to be unique.

There I feel like I am bursting at the seams with so many possibilities–the city can hardly contain itself.

I must do a little plug here in support of up and coming talent: I just had the best sandwich ever in Num Pang a few weeks ago. I had the peppercorn catfish, the coconut corn and the blood orange lemonade to finish. Buy it, sit outside in union square park and just treat your soul well.

My closest and best(est) of friends are still New York.
And my heart will always be there no matter where life might take me.
